Rodent Control in Noblesville, Indiana

Noblesville is the oldest town in Hamilton County. William Conner and Josiah Polk platted it in 1823 along the east bank of the White River, and it became the county seat the next year. The courthouse on the square went up between 1877 and 1879. The old part of town has houses from the 1800s and early 1900s, while the newer subdivisions push out into what was farmland not long ago.

Old downtown houses get house mice through their foundations. The newer edges get field mice and voles from the fields next door.

Around the Square

The older homes near downtown have stone and brick foundations, old basement windows and a lot of patched pipe holes. Those are mouse doors. Shops and restaurants around the square share walls and alleys, which helps rodents move from one building to the next. Entry point sealing is where most of the long-term fixes happen.

Out Where the Fields Were

When a field becomes a subdivision, the mice and voles that lived there don't leave. They move to the edges and into the new garages. If your yard backs onto farmland or a strip of trees, expect field mice in the fall and vole runways in the spring. Keep grass mowed short going into winter and guard young trees with hardware cloth.

Local Questions

Can voles kill my new trees?

They can chew the bark all the way around the base and girdle a young tree. A hardware cloth guard prevents it.
