Rodent Control in Carmel, Indiana

Carmel sits right above Indianapolis in Hamilton County, between 96th Street and 146th Street, with the White River on its east side. It was settled by Quaker farmers in the 1820s and is now a city of nearly 100,000 people. It's also known for roundabouts. The city built 155 of them between 1997 and 2025.

Most Carmel homes are newer and fairly tight. The rodent calls tend to come from garages, crawl spaces and the edges of subdivisions where the lawn meets a pond, a creek or a strip of woods.

The Garage Is the Front Door

Big attached garages with three bays, a second fridge, bags of grass seed and bird seed, and a car that sits all winter are where Carmel mouse problems usually start. A worn bottom seal or a gap at the door corners is all they need. See garage and car rodents for what to check.

Ponds, Creeks and Common Ground

Subdivisions built around retention ponds and common areas have tall grass at the edges. That's vole and field mouse country. In March you'll see vole runways in lawns next to those areas, and in October the field mice head for the nearest garage. Homes near the White River and the Monon Greenway see the same thing.

  • Check garage door seals in September
  • Move bird feeders away from the house
  • Keep mulch thin and away from the foundation

We bought new construction. Where are the mice coming from?

Usually the garage door, the dryer vent or the gap where the AC lines go through the wall. New houses settle and seals shrink.
